We first met Tao in 2015. He was abandoned by his parents and raised by his disabled grandmother, who lived in a wooden shed with no floors. When it rained they had to retreat to a litle wooden platform because the entire shed would flood. Tao was going to secondary school in Ban Thanong. We were afraid that even with our help Tao would not make it through secondary school, but he surprised us big time! After secondary school he decided to continue his education and study Public Health.
A few months ago Tao graduated with a bachelor degree in Public Health from Buriram Rajabhat University in Buriram province. He is the first one in his entire family to graduate with a bachelor degree.
Meanwhile he also passed the exams to become a government public health officer.
This is what he told us after his graduation:
“I came from scratch, from a poor back ground family in a small village. I lived in a wooden shed reading text book in a bedroom plus kitchen with not enough lights. I have come this far because of the scholarship. Your support made a real difference for me and of course my family. I cannot thank you enough for this. Thank you.”
Tao immediately landed a job in a beauty clinic in Khorat. Regretfully because of the pandemic the clinic was forced to temporary close its doors. Did that stop Tao? Of course not, he immediately found another job at a Pet store. He hopes to return to the clinic after it is allowed to open its doors again.
Tao you really impressed us! Well done!
